Second Vermont Republic?
In March of 2008 group of Vermont citizens hopes to put the question before it's citizens on whether or not to persuade state lawmakers to declare independence from the US and return Vermont to status it held from 1777 to 1791.
I doubt the US government would let that happen but there is nothing in the US constitution that explicitly forbids secession.
If nothing else it will send a clear message to the US government that people aren't happy with the way things are going.

I hope we all remember the last time a state secedded from the Union.
Declare war on the USA, then surrender immediately and demand a couple of billion for a Marshall type of plan.
Its a ridiculous concept, but it would be fun.....
