Tainted Feed Minor Threat to Humans?

Why is the FDA so laxed when it comes to food for humans?

Pet food was recalled when it was found to contain a chemical called melamine that they found in wheat glutton that came from China. (Why are we buying wheat products from China, when they get the wheat from us to start with?)

On Monday the FDA announced that byproducts from tainted pet food was being used in chicken and hog feed.

Their argument was that only a small portion of poultry is used in the human diet. (How would they know are they watching what you eat?)
